Abstract
In this study, localization characteristics of the cra¬nial and orbital apertures of the optic canal were eva¬luated in 123 adult human skulls. (Minimal and maxi¬mal values are described in brackets). 1. Milimetric values of the distance between the orbital aperture and planum medianum were found as mean 15.01 mm (11-22) and 15.35 mm (11-27) on the the right and left sides respectively. 2. The distances between the cranial aperture and planum medianum were found as mean 7.18 mm on both sides (4.3-11). 3. The mean distances between the right and the left cranial apertures was found as 14.57 mm (10.2-22). 4. The mean distances between the orbital aperture and the posterior the posterior ethmoidal foramen were found as 6.19 mm and 6.16 mm on the right and left sides respectively (3-12.4). 5. The mean distances bet¬ween the cranial aperture and frontasphenoidal suture, were found as 9.96 mm and 9.99 mm on the right and left sides respectively (3.1-22). 6. The mean va¬lues of the inclination angle (according tö the trans-vers plane) of the optic canals were found 14.99 and 14.43 degrees on the right and left sides respectively (6-28). 7. The mean values of the anterior angle (ac¬cording to the sagittal plane) of the optic canals were found 36.09 and 36.39 degress on the right and leftsides respectively (24-45) The localization of the optic canal may be important for retrobulbar anesthesia, or¬bital surgery, radiologic evaluation of the orbit and neurosurgical approach to orbital apex. Therefore in this study the localizations of the apertures of the optic canals were evaluated on the anatomic material.
