Abstract
Objective: To demonstrate the abnormalities of the optic nerve and posterior sclera in morning glory syndrome (MGS), an uncommon congenital disc anomaly, were demonstrated by imaging tecniques and to discuss the role of these tecnipues at the diagnosis were discussed. Material and Methods: In this study, three patients with morning glory syndrome (so called bacause of the resultant apparance of the fundus) were examined and the congenital abnormalities of the orbit and brain were illustrated by ultrasonography (US), computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results: The CT and MR apperances of MGS is quite characteristic, corresponding to its funduscopic apperance. The CT and MR examinations of the orbita showed a funnel-shaped, excavated optic ' disc, a posterior scleral defect, an enlarged optik nerve and tortuosity of optic nerve at the insertion of globe. Ultrasonography was normal. Conclusion: In morning glory syndrome, diagnosis is made at funduscopic examination and confirmed by imaging which is indicated to demonstrate the extent of the defects at optic disc and posterior sclera and to exclude associated systemic abnormalities.
