The effects of the viscoelastic materials to the post-operative intraocular pressure in cataract surgery

Çarşamba devlet hastanesinde Aralık 1994-Ekim 1996 tarihleri arasında planlı ekstrakâpsüler katarakt ekstraksiyonu+arka kamara göziçi lens implantasyonu yapılan hastalarda postoperatif göziçi .basınç yükselmeleri araştırıldı. 22 hastada ön kamara korunarak viskoelastik madde kul¬lanılmadan operasyon gerçekleştirildi. 20 hastada viskoelastik madde ile operasyon yapıldı.Tüm vakalar lokal anestezi ile öpere edildi. Hastaların postoperatif göziçi basınçları 6. Saatte,!,2.,3. günde ölçülerek birbiri ile ve preoperatif değerlerle karşılaştırıldı. Preoperatif göziçi basıncına göre iki gruptada postoperatif anlamlı ba¬sınç artışı oldu (P 0.05). Her iki grupta da operasyonlar emniyetle gerçekleştirildi. Operatif ve postoperatif komplikasyonlar farklılık göstermedi (P>0.05).

Abstract

We investigated the postoperative increase of intraocular pressure in 42 patients undergoing extracapsular cataract extraction and implantation of a posterior chamber lens at Çarşamba City Hospital between December 94-October 96. The operation was done without using viscöelastic material in 20 patients and with viscöelastic material in 22 patients. Local anesthesia was used in all patients. Intraocular pressure was measured at six hours, first,second and third days after operation. The intraocular pressurres were compared with each other and with the pre-operative values.Considerable increase in intraocular pressure was present in both groups (P<0.01) . Increase in intraocular pressure at six hours and during the first day were less in grup II (P<0.05). In this group, intraocular pressure decreased to normal levels earlier and there were no significant change in pressure in the 2 th and 3 th days after operation (P>0.05). There were no significant difference in operative and post-operative complications in both group (P>0.05)
