Abstract

PURPOSE: To evaluate choroidal abnormalities in central serous Chorioretinopathy (CSC). METHOD: Digital indocyanine green (ICG) and fluorescein video angiography were performed in 21 patients with CSC, and 42 eyes were evaluated. Of the eyes, 12 had acute, 10 had recurrent and 7 had healed CSC. In the remaining 13 eyes, ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein angiography were normal. RESULTS: Fluorescein and ICG Videoangiography revealed focal exudation in 22 eyes with acute and recurrent CSC. Also diffuse hyperfluorescence around the focal hyperfluorescent spot was found in 5 eyes with active and 2 with recurrent CSC. In all the 17 eyes with recurrent and healed CSC, hypofluorescent spots became evident on the late phase of ICG. In 5 of these eyes, diffuse hyperfluorescence occurred at the site of previous leaks. Areas of choroidal staining were evident especially on the mid phase of ICG in one of the remaining 13 eyes which appeared normal on fluorescein angiography. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that choroidal vascular hyperpermeability may be the causative factor of exudative changes in CSC. These findings can be demonstrated better with ICG angiography.
