Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the retinal nevre fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) with optical coherence tomography (OCT) in migraine patients. Material and Method: Forty six eyes of 46 migraine patients (group 1) and 45 eyes of 45 healthy subjects (group 2) were included in this study. Peripapillary RNFL and GCC thickness measurements were taken with Fourier Domain (FD)-OCT in both groups. The correlation be- tween the obtained values and the duration of the migraine disease, the frequency and the du- ration of the migraine attack or the presence of the aura was evaluated. Results: The mean peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured in temporal, superior, nasal and inferior quadrants, while the GCC thickness was measured in superior and inferior quadrants, and the values did not show any statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). There were no correlation between the mean thicknesses of RNFL and GCC and and the duration of the migraine disease, the frequency and the duration of the migraine attack or the presence of the aura (p>0.05). Conclusion: In this study, it was demonstrated that migraine disease does not have any ef- fect on the thickness of the RNFL and GCC. The findings must be confirmed with further stud- ies including more patient numbers.
