Abstract
The skeletal and dental deformities, involves both the dentoalveolar regions and the skeletal regions of the mandible. The treatment of skeletal open bite named " long face syndrome" using only orthodontic mechanotherapy has always been difficult. The aim of orthognatic treatment is to construct a balance between the various components of face skeleton and to make preparations of constructing adequate dental occlusion and functional stomathognatic system. Recently, there have been many new researches that involve the relationship between orthognatic surgery and orthodontic mechanotherapy. Today, the orthodontic-surgical treatment of the patients even with limited masticatory functions and have serious dentofacial deformation, has become a routine procedure for both the maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists. This, paper evaluates various studies about this matter and provides knowledge about the treatment of skeletal open bite with orthognatic surgery.
