Abstract

In this study, the effect of the use of ground waste glass powder and polypropylene fiber on the fresh, physical and mechanical properties of cement based mortars was investigated. In the preparation of mortar mixtures, crushed sand was used as aggregate and CEM I 42,5 R Portland Cement was used as binder. In the mixtures, the water / binder ratio was kept constant at 0.5. Waste glass powder used as mineral additive was used by substituting 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% by weight with cement. As a fiber, polypropylene fiber was used by adding 0%, 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5% by volume. Produced mortar samples were subjected to bending and pressure tests on the 7th day. Physical properties such as water absorption percentage, porosity percentage and unit volume weight tests are completed on the 28th day in the curing pool; Mechanical properties such as bending and compressive strengths were observed. As a result, with the increase of the waste glass powder ratio, the spreading values increased up to 10%, while the spreading values decreased by 31% with the increase in the fiber ratio. With the increase in fiber ratio, bending strength increased in all series. In particular, the 28-day flexural strength of the mortar with 10% glass powder added, with an increase in flexural strength, was 7.2 MPa, while the flexural strength increased to 8.98 MPa with the addition of 0.5% fiber. With the increase in the rate of ground glass powder, an increase in bending strength and a decrease in compressive strength have occurred. With the increase in fiber content, bending and compressive strengths were increased.
