Özet
Evliyâ Çelebi Seyâhatnâmesi, XIX. yüzyla kadar fazla bir ilgiye mazhar olmad. Bu yüzyldan itibaren ise önce Hammer’in ơngilizce seçkisi, daha sonra da Türkçe seçkilerden oluƾan Müntehabât’la giderek popüler bir eser hâline geldi. Bu ilgiden de güç alan Œkdâm gazetesi sahibi Ahmed Cevdet, Seyâhatnâme’nin on cildini yaynlamak üzere giriƾimlerde bulundu ve 1896-1901 yllar arasnda ilk alt cildi, eksik, sansürlü ve yanlƾlarla malul de olsa yaynlamaya muvaffak oldu. Fakat daha sonra Seyâhatnâme aleyhindeki ƾikâyetler sebebiyle eserin basksn durdurmak ve baslan ciltleri de depolara kilitlemek zorunda kald. Hem Müntehabât- Evliyâ Çelebi hem de Ahmed Cevdet’in yaynladƭ ilk alt cilt, devlet tarafndan yasaklanmalarna raƭmen Seyâhatnâme’nin daha fazla okuyucuya ulaƾmasn saƭlamƾtr. Bu makalede eserin geniƾ kitlelere ulaƾmasn saƭlayan, bununla birlikte eser ve müellifini tahfif edici imajn oluƾmasnda da büyük etkisi olan Evliyâ Çelebi Seyâhatnâmesi’nin Osmanl Türkçesi basklar incelenmiƾtir.
Abstract
EvlJyâ ÇelebJ’s Seyâhatnâme (Book of Travels) dJd not receJve much attentJon untJl the nJneteenth century. From thJs century onwards, Jt gradually became a popular work thanks to, ërst, the Müntehabât composed by Hammer Jn EnglJsh and then to a compJlatJon of excerpts Jn TurkJsh. Encouraged by thJs Jnterest, Ahmed Cevdet, the owner of Œkdâm newspaper, set out to publJsh the ten volumes of the Seyâhatnâme. Although Jncomplete, censored and sometJmes Jncorrect, he managed to publJsh the ërst sJx volumes between 1896-1901. Because of the complaJnts agaJnst the Seyâhatnâme, he then had to stop prJntJng and was oblJged to lock the prJnted volumes Jn storehouses. Although both the Müntehabât- EvlJyâ ÇelebJ and the ërst sJx volumes that Ahmed Cevdet publJshed were banned by government, they helped expandJng the Seyâhatnâme’s readershJp. ɨJs artJcle dJscusses the Ottoman TurkJsh edJtJons of EvlJya ÇelebJ’s Seyâhatnâme, whJch were Jnstrumental Jn conveyJng the work to large masses and also eêectJvely formJng a negatJve publJc opJnJon about both the work and Jts author
