Abstract
The present study aimed at determining the geography concepts in the Social Studies course books 4 and 5 which had been prepared according to 2004 curriculum and a total of 190 concepts on geography (129 physical geography concepts, 61 demographic and economic geography concepts) were determined. It is seen that the physical geography concepts are more frequent than the concepts on demographic and economic geography. It draws attention that the concepts on weather and land features are more frequent than the other ones. In the current social studies course books, the reduction of the number of the geography concepts is another point that attracts attention. However, it is thought that there still are too many geography concepts in the course books too and it would be highly difficult to teach all those concepts to the first grade students.
