Abstract

There is a striking variation in the cumulative incidence of febrile convulsions (FC) over the world. The prevalence studies in Turkey are insufficient to indicate the significance of FC as a common health problem. In this study, the prevalence of FC and the attitude of the parents against fever were investigated in a rural area of Aegean region of Turkey with a warm climate. The study group consisted-of 596 children which were selected by randomized exemplifying technique. A questionnaire was filled in by the same investigator for every case after interviewing mothers face to face during home visits. The prevalence rate of convulsive disorders was found to be 4.7 %, FC constituting 3.7% of them.
