Abstract

To investigate the effects of the GnRH agonist D-Triptorelin (Decapeptyl 3.75 mg., Ferring.Switzenand) on endometriosis, 42 patients were treated with it intramuscularly over 6 months after histological verification of the disease. As shown by the follow up operation at the e nd of the treatment, 72.2 % of cases showed regression of implants, whereas adhe¬sions se emed to be unaffected. Negative methabolic effects were absent in terms of hematology, clotting system, liver enzymes, re¬nal parameters and lipid methabolism. Remarcable was a significant increase of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL). Subjec¬tive complaints were mostly attributed to the therapy induced hipoestrogentsm. We concider D-Triptorelin to be an effective drug in the treatment of endometriosis with a low incidence of relevant side effects.
