Abstract
In this study, a sertoli cell tumor with metastasis to the skin and internal organs was defined in a 13-year-old male dog of the Boxer breed. Macroscopical examination revealed the presence of a mass with hard consistency localized in the inguinal-perineal region, surrounding the testes and the penis and praeputium all around, extending to the coxo-femoral region in the lateral, the anus in the caudal, and the umbilical region in the cranial direction, weighing approximately 1800 grams, with dimensions of 15x8x6 cm, that was determined to have grayish white and lobullated cut surfaces. Upon the opening of the abdominal cavity, the mass localised in the inguinal-perineal region was determined to pass through the canalis inguinalis and to run along bilaterally at the ventral surface of the canalis vertebralis to the kidneys. The intraabdominal part of the mass was demonstrated to have dimensions of 9x8x4 cm, and to display an appearance similar to that of the external mass. Elevated nodular foci of varying size that were determined to be partially yellowish white and dark red in colour were detected in the intestinal serosa, heart, spleen, liver and pancreas. Furthermore, a hard mass with a total weight of 250 grams and with lobullated appearance on the external surface and cut surfaces was determined to be localized at the entry of the apertura thoracis cranialis and on the left side of the trachea. The part of this tumor with dimensions of 8x4x2 cm was demonstrated to be located outside the thoracic cavity, whereas the part of the tumor with dimensions of 10x7x4 cm was determined to be localized within the thoracic cavity. Microscopical examination revealed elongate pleomorphic neoplastic cells with either small round or oval nuclei, dense eosinophilic cytoplasm and sometimes cytoplasmic vacuoles, to form tubule-like structures through arrangement as either chords or islets on the basal membrane. The neoplastic foci were divided into lobules by a stroma rich of connective tissue. Neoplastic structures displaying similar properties were also determined in the liver, spleen, intestinal serosa, heart and the mass localised near the apertura throcasis cranialis.
