Abstract
In the history of Islamic thought, discussions stemming from theological problems such as mürtekibü’l-kebîre (deadly sinner), ef‘âlü’l-‘ibâd (human actions), istitâat (ability and strength), kader (destiny), irâde (will), iman-küfür (faith-heresy), hidâyet-dalâlet (true path-aberration) revealed divisions that cannot be solved within Islamic society. Many sects such as Kharijites, Mu’tazila, Murji’s and Shi’ites have been involved in these debates over time and have put forward various views on these issues. On the other hand, tadwīn (compilation) and tasnīf (classification) activities, which gained momentum in the process, enabled such controversial subjects to enter into hadith works. Naturally, the authors and musannifs have dealt with the debates of the time period in which they are classified according to their own perspectives through the works they have classified. Thus, musannifs, on the one hand to argue their opinions on the other hand, on the other hand, have produced various works to criticize the theses of the opposition groups and sects. In fact, some of the narratives in these works and some of the bābs (headlines) in which these narratives are placed have various traces from the intellectual debates carried out during the period. In this article, Zaydī Muhaddith Ahmad b. ʿIsā’s perspective on these controversial theological issues in the III. (IX.) century will be discussed in the context of the narratives and views in Amālī . In this way, the reflections of theological debates on Amālī which affect a important period of the history of hadith will be discussed and Ahmad b. ʿIsā’s views on these discussions will be examined in comparison with the mainstream sects such as Khārijite, Mu’tazila, Murjiʾah and Shia.
