Abstract
An imperforate hymen is a rare congenital anomaly with an incidence of 0.014 to 0.024 percent. An abnormal embryological development of the urogenital sinus, from which the hymen is derived, is the cause of imperforate hymen. This malformation is usually diagnosed at puberty, presenting with symptoms of outflow obstruction such as primary amenorrhoae, abdominal pain or pelvic mass. Although it is a sporadic obstructive anomaly of the female genital tract, familial occurences have been reported. This report presents a case of seconder hymenal occlusion due to pyocolpos, in a 17-year old girl presenting with secondary amenorrhoae.
