Abstract

Untreated adrenal cortex hypofunction reduces fertility, thus, Addison's disease is a rare endocrinopathy in pregnancy. This infrequent disease in pregnancy poses a high risk of maternal and fetal morbidity if not recognized and treated. With adequate steroid replacement therapy pregnancies have become more common in patients with adrenocortical hypofunction and the risk for the mother and fetus during pregnancy is decreased significantly. We report a 31 year-old pregnant patient with Addison's disease who was optimally treated; no complications were observed throughout the pregnancy with hormone therapy. The literature was also reviewed for the optimal treatment and management of pregnancies with Addison's disease.
