Termination of pregnancy by misoprostol; Benefits and risks

Özet

Bu makalenin amacı, misoprostol kullanımı ile ilgili tecrübelerimizin sunumu ve özellikle kendi sonuçlarımız ve literatür bilgilen ışığında, misoprostol kullanımının güvenilirliğinin ve suistimal riskinin tartışılmasıdır. Kliniğimizde medikal abortus veya medikal endikasyonlar doğrultusunda gebelik terminasyonu planlanan 118 hastada misoprostol uygulammı sonucunda %93.2 oranında başarılı sonuç elde edilmiştir. Uygulanımdan ortalama 11.9+3.3 saat sonra sonuç elde edildiği hesaplanmıştır. Misoprostol gebelik terminasyonunda başarı ile kullanılabilecek güvenilir bir ajan olmakla birlikte ilaç suistimali açısından büyük bir risk taşımaktadır.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, efficacy and potential risks of misoprostol in termination of pregnancies. STUDY DESIGN: The study group consisted of 118 pregnant women of 12-28 weeks gestational age who admitted our department for medical abortion or medically indicated labor induction. 400-800 ug misoprostol was administered in the posterior vaginal fornix. RESULTS: Abortion or delivery was achieved in 86.4% after a single dose and in 93.2% after the additional dose. The mean administration to abortion/delivery time was 11.9 ±3.3 hours. The complications were minimal and readily tolerable. CONCLUSION: Misoprostol is very effective in termination of pregnancies but the abuse of this drug rs a serious threat and must be prevented.
