Abstract
Hemivertabra is a congenital anomaly of the spine in which one half of the vertebral body develops. The incidence of hemivertebra is 5-10: 10.000. births. It occurs more commonly in females. Developmental failure of one of the lateral chondrification centers is the pathogenic mechanism. The prognosis of the isolated hemivertabra is good. The role of the genetic factors is controversial. Hemivertebra is commonly associated with other musculoskeletal anomalies including those of the ribs, spine, and limbs. Cardiac, genitourinary, gastrointestinal and central nervous system anomalies have also been reported. We report a case of thoracal hemivertebra in a 18 years old primigravid patient. We have found out thoracal kyphscoliosis due to hemivertebra formation at the level of 10th -12th throacal vertebras. We haven't seen any other associated anomalies in fetal fast MRI and second level USG examinations. (Gynecol Obstet Reprod Med 2001; 7:163-165)
