Yapılan göçlerin sonucunda bölge nüfusunun %45'i göçmenlerden meydana gelmiştir. Bölgeye göçmenler genelde toplu olarak yerleştirilmiştir. Toplu iskân, gelen göçmenlerin ilk dönemlerde Osmanlı dil ve kültürüne uyumda sorunlar yaşamasına neden olmuştur. Toplu olarak yerleştirilenler kimliklerini koruyabilmişken, karma olarak yerleştirilenler iskân edildikleri bölgelerin kültürüyle kaynaşmışlardır. Bölgenin Anadolu ve İstanbul arasında geçiş noktası olması bölgeye Karadeniz bölgesinden iç göçlerin yapılmasına neden olmuştur
Abstract
Owing to the invasion policy pursued by Russia in the 19th century, immigrants from Caucasus, the Balkans and Crimea were settled in Düzce by the Ottoman Empire. The reason for this was that Düzce had less population density than the other Ottoman cities and it had very productive agricultural lands. As a result of these migrations, the immigrants formed 45% of the population of the region. Those who were settled together managed to retain their own identities although they had some difficulties in adapting to Ottoman language and culture at the beginning. Those who were settled in mixed groups, on the other hand, assimilated with the culture of the areas they were settled in. Due to the fact that this region was the transition point between the capital city Istanbul and Anatolia, the region attracted many immigrants from the Black Sea Region.
