Abstract
Objective: Prognostic parameters other than stage and grade are also playing important roles in. patients with cervical carcinoma. Proliferative activity, angogenesis and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression may predict the biologic aggressiveness. Materials and method: Fourty-four patients with cervical carcinoma were evaluated for histopathological prognostic parameters and Ki-67 immunostaining, CD-31 for stereological assessment of angiogenesis and epidermal growth factor expression were performed. Results: There was no correlation between stage, grade and histologie typing. There was a significant relation between grade and proliferative activity and angiogenesis. No relation was found between EGFR expression and the other parameters (stage, grade, histologie typing, proliferative activity and angiogenesis). Conclusions: In this study, we found significant correlation between grade and proliferative activity. So proliferative activity is a useful prognostic parameter that can be evaluated with histologie grade. Also angiogenesis might indicate tumour aggressiveness in servical carcinomas.
