Abstract
The European Vertical GPS Reference Network (EUVN) GPS Campaign was carried out from 21 to 29 May 1997. Turkey participated in this campaign by performing observations at seven sites. The network was divided into eight subnetworks, and General Command of Mapping(GCM)/Turkey was accepted as one of the eight Analysis Centers(AC) to process the subnetwork which covers the seven Turkish sites together with the eight additional overlapping and IGS sites.Three strategies were applied in the post processing to determine the optimal processing strategy for this campaign. The first strategy was to process the data with an elevation angle of 15 degrees without elevation dependent weighting, the second strategy was to process the data with an elevation angle of 5 degrees both with and without elevation dependent weighting. The third strategy was to use satellite specific weights both for 5 and 15 degrees elevation angles. The processing was performed using the Bernese V4.0 software running on Sun Solaris system at GCM. It is expected that the 5 degree solution would give the best result. But the comparison results show that 15 degree solution seems to be more homogeneous. There is no significant difference between the 5 and 15 degrees solutions in statistical sense. Hence, it is difficult to decide which strategy is optimal, because all the three solutions give comparable results. On the other hand it may be a good strategy to repeat the processing using different mapping function(s), (e.g. Niell, 1993) which are reported to be more effective for the processing of GPS data from lower elevation angles (5 degrees etc.). Consequently, processings using 15 degrees cut-off elevation angle should be accepted as standard solution strategy until the new processing strategies are achieved (i.e. using new mapping functions etc.).
