Özet

Her çete tanımı zaman, mekan ve bağlamda değişeceği için ideal bir çete tanımı yapmak imkan dahilinde gözükmemektedir. Buna rağmen terimin temel bileşenlerini ve farklı durumlardaki kullanım biçimlerini tespit etmek mümkündür. Bu bağlamda, 1908-1918 arasındaki çalkantılı dönem, çete teriminin Osmanlı otoriteleri tarafından oldukça analitik kullanıldığı bir dönemi temsil eder. Bu makale terimin kullanım biçimleri yahut kategorizasyonunun, resmiyet ve meşruiyet gibi kaygan ve çok yönlü kavramlar etrafında nasıl şekillendiğini ele alıyor.

Abstract

It seems not possible to make a proper definition of the term “band” as this historic phenomenon took varying context in time and place. Notwithstanding, it is possible to identify basic components and different usages of the word in different situations. In this context, the tumultuous period between 1908 and 1918 represents a time when the term was quite analytically used by the Ottoman authorities. This study examines different usages or categories of the term on the ground of slippery and multifaceted concepts such as formality and legitimacy.
