Özet

Ermeni tehciri hususundaki en önemli tartışma noktalarından biri tehcir öncesi Ermeni nüfusu ve tehcir sonucu gerçekleşen ölümlerin miktarıdır. Bu, bir anlamda tartışmanın tarafları arasındaki bir “sayılar savaşı”na tekabül eder. Bu makale, bahsi geçen sayılar savaşına Osmanlı arşiv belgelerinden yararlanarak katkıda bulunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu çerçevede, daha önce kullanılmamış belgelerden yararlanılarak Kayseri sancağının tehcir öncesi nüfusu köyler temelinde ele alınacak ve Ermeni nüfusunun sancaktaki dağılımına dair bir değerlendirme yapılacaktır.

Abstract

The size of the Armenian population before 1915 and the deaths occurred as a result of the Armenian deportation is one of the most debated issues regarding the historical issue of the Ottoman Armenians. This also refers to a “battle on numbers”. The present study aims to contribute to the debate by analyzing new documents found in the Ottoman Archives. Through these documents, the essay presents the Armenian population of the Kayseri Sanjak village by village on the basis of religious groups surveyed before the depor- tation and evaluates the distribution of the Armenians within the province.
