Abstract

: In Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has different religious identities and has been under Ottoman rule for four centuries, Ottomans opened the first modern printing house within the scope of the reforms of the Ottoman Empire, which attempted to reconstruct the country in different areas after intense feeling of the Western superiority in the 19th century. This printing house, which was opened in 1866 with the intense effort of reformer bureaucrats, can be seen as the first step in the development of journalism in the country. In this study, the development of printing house in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the reactions of different segments of the society against the reforms implemented by the Ottoman Empire in the country and the general situation of the country are discussed. The newspapers Bosanski Vjestnik, Bosna and Sarajevski Cvjetnik were published in this printing house, first named Sopronova Pečatnja and then the Provincial Printing House. In addition, another printing house established in Mostar and the newspaper named Neretva was published. In this study, the tasks undertaken by the aforementioned four newspapers, what kind of impact they have among the public and what kind of values they add to social and cultural life are examined.
