Abstract
Due to the fact that the establishment of geodetic networks within surveying studies is based on the sites of fundamental control networks, network orientation parameters (translation, rotation and scale) in those studies depend on the cumulative secular and episodic deformation of fundamental network sites to be used. In classical geodetic networks, the deformation within the network remains at a negligible level except for the special deformation areas like fault boundaries since the sites determining changes of network orientation parameters are at a reference frame attached to the lithosphere and are located at relatively shorter distances to each other depending on terrestrial observation techniques used. Although the establishment of modern reference frames enabled defining the horizontal and vertical control networks together, newly-defined reference frames became much more susceptible to the motions of lithosphere. Turkish National Fundamental GPS Network-99A (TNFGN-99A) was produced based on International Terrestrial Reference System (ITRS) and the most up-to-date version of ITRF at that time, ITRF-96 was used. In this sense, secular change of TNFGN-99A was defined within NNR (no-net-rotation), which is formed based on plate motions and their areas on earth. Realization of ITRS on the earth with newly-added data has continued with ITRF2000 and it is expected that ITRS will be improved with the increasing data amount and new data processing methods. Inability of computing perfect secular changes (observation/interpolation) of fundamental network causes an increasing deformation from the publishing epoch on. Minimizing the secular changes of fundamental geodetic network underlying almost all surveying studies based on different realizations of ITRS is compulsory in terms of integrity and consistency of geodetic applications. In this study, reference frames, ITRF94, ITRF96, ITRF97, ITRF2000 and ETRF94, ETRF96, ETRF1997 and ETRF2000 which were derived from ETRS (European Terrestrial Reference System) adapted for Europe are inspected with an aspect of the coordinates and the velocities and TURES-96 (Turkish National Reference System-96), the velocity field of which is independent of ITRS solutions and based on rigid body rotation of Anatolian Plate, and Turkish National Reference Frames TUREF96 and TUREF2000 based on TURES-96 are proposed.
