Abstract

Employment of children emerges as a serious problem, especially in developing countries and causes deprivation of education, mental and physical problems and has negative social effects. In this study, it was aimed to display the socio-démographie aspects of children who are working in the streets of Diyarbakır. For this purpose, 136 street children were interviewed. The mean age of these children was 12.6 ±1,7 years. Most of the children's background was rural areas (79.4%). The majority were still attending their school (68.4%), had more than 6 siblings (67.6%) and begun to work at an early age. The problem of child workers as an important social defect and the consequent unrepairable results in the community were discussed.
