Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the incidence of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)in patients with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) according to DSM-IV criteria. Method: For this purpose The Yale Global Tic Severity Scale and Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder scale were administered to 40 children and adolescents with GTS. A questionnaire that is including family history and demographic characteristics were administered to their family and some of them were examined according to DSM-IV criteria. Results: 37,5% of the subjects met the DSM-IV diagnosis criteria for OCD and 15% of the subjects had obsessive compulsive symptoms. Findings showed that relatives had 15% of the OCD. Conclusion: There was a significantly greater incidence of OCD in the patients with GTS. This comorbidity is important for the treatment and solution of the school and social life problems.
