17. Yüzyılın İkinci Yarısında Edirne'de Gayrimüslimlerin İktisadi Faaliyetleri

Özet
Edirne, fethedildikten kısa bir süre sonra Osmanlı’nın önemli ticarî ve sanayi merkezlerinden biri haline geldi. Şehrin nüfusu 16. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında 30.000 civarındaydı. Müslümanların yanı sıra şehrin sakinleri Hıristiyan, Yahudi ve diğer etnik unsurlardı. Bu çalışmanın odağını da şehirdeki gayrimüslimler ve bunların şehirdeki tarımsal, ticarî ve sınaî faaliyetleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın ana kaynağı tereke kayıtlarıdır. Bu kayıtlar, Osmanlı toplumunun sosyal, iktisadi ve kültürel yaşamına ışık tutacak verileri barındırması açısından önemli kaynaklardır. Terekeler, ölen kişinin kimliği, unvanı, kökeni, medeni durumu, varsa eş ve çocuklarının sayısı hususunda bilgiler ihtiva eder. Daha da önemlisi kişinin hayatı boyunca tasarruf ettiği her türlü menkul ve gayrimenkul malların nitelik, adet ve fiyatlarını; ayrıca varsa borç ve alacaklarını içerir. Çalışmada, Edirne Şerʽiyye Sicillerinden 35, 37, 39, 40, 41 ve 42 numaralı defterlerden istifade edildi. Defterlerde incelemeye değer görülen 25 gayrimüslime ait tereke kaydı üzerinde değerlendirme yapıldı. Terekelere kaydedilen menkul ve gayrimenkul mallar üzerinden gayrimüslimlerin servetleri, geçim kaynakları, kazanç ve birikimlerini hangi eşyalara yatırdıkları ve meslekleri saptanmaya çalışıldı. Diğer yandan kırsalda tarım ve hayvancılıkla uğraşan, şehir merkezinde mal üreten veya alım-satım yaptığı tespit edilen gayrimüslimlerin ekonomik faaliyetleri değerlendirildi.
Abstract
Shortly after the conquest of Edirne, it became one of the important commercial and industrial centers of theOttoman Empire. The city’s population was around 30,000 in the second half of the 16th century. Muslims as well asthe inhabitants of the city were Christian, Jewish and other ethnic minorities. The focus of this work is the non-Muslims in the city and their agricultural, commercial and industrial activities. The main source of the work is terekerecords. These records are important sources in terms of containing data to shed light on the social, economic andcultural life of Ottoman society. The documents contain information about the identity, title, origin, marital status ofthe deceased and the number of spouses and children, if any. More importantly, it includes the quality, quantity andprices of all kinds of movable and real estate goods that the person has saved during his /her life, as well as his debtsand receivables, if any. The study examined the registration of 25 non-Muslims selected from 35, 37, 39, 40, 41 and42 of Edirne registries. In the study, the books numbered 35, 37, 39, 40, 41 and 42 in Edirne Şerʽiyye Registers wereused. 25 non-Muslims who were considered worthy of examination in the books were evaluated on the tereke registry.It was tried to determine the assets, livelihoods, earnings and savings of the non-Muslims and the occupations on thesecurities and real estate goods recorded in the registers. On the other hand, the economic activities of non-Muslimsengaged in agriculture and animal husbandry in the countryside, producing goods or buying and selling goods in thecity center were evaluated.
