Abstract

As a man of culture and prominent political figures Refik Halid Karay, is one of themost important intellectuals educated in Turkey in the 20th century. In particular, as beingan effective political humor writer Refik Halid has also been closely involved with the historyand sociology as besides man of letter. Karay has mostly written political, social, economicand cultural developments happened in the first half of the 20th century that is one of theturning points of the Turkish history. The author expressed these events for reader with astrong writing skills and extraordinary interpretive power. Refik Halid is one of the prominentintellectuals commenting skillfully development and changes of the Turkish community inthe years between 1908-1965, in his memoirs, articles, and literary works. Another theme that author emphasizes in this works mainly western culture and image of the west. Whilethinking and interpreting important developments in Turkey and Middle East in his booksand newspaper articles, he has questioned meticulously influence and impact of the west onthe point of emergence and development of the these events. Thus, he often thought westernimpact on the eastern culture in this comments about the theme of political history, militaryhistory, social history and cultural history. It has been tried to study thoughts of the writeron western culture starting from information provided by the works of Karay in this study.
