Abstract
Plants respond against pathogens after stimulation of plant defense by elicitors. The pathogens are primarily recognized by plant at the inoculation site resulting in the onset of chain reactions leading to systematic resistance against pathogen. Depending upon the type of signal released by pathogen, the physiological and biochemical changes at the inoculation site lead to the synthesis of many substances which form a physical barrier for subsequent spread of pathogen infection. This type of resistance is normally associated -with the formation of papilla, lignin, accumulation of pathogenesis related (PR) proteins and production of antimicrobial metabolites in plant. In recent years, compounds like salicylic acid have been shown to impart resistance against pathogens. In this review, use of one of the plant defenserinducer like $beta$-DL-AminobutyricAcid (BABA) will be discussed as an alternative strategy far plant protection.
