Abstract
The first electricity production in Denizli was brought about in 1915. The first application for the electricity concession in Denizli in the Republican period was made by `Denizli Sanayi Şirketi (Denizli Industrial Company) at the end of 1924. The company obtained an electricity concession. Even though “Mustafalar Şirketi (Mustafalar Company)” wanted to get a concession in 1925, they could not obtain it. In 1930s, `Marelli Şirketi (Marelli Company) ` tried to obtain the concession. In order to solve the electricity problem, Iktisat Bank and Denizli Municipality took joint action in 1930. The concession was taken from the Denizli Industry Company by the municipality in 1932 and it was given to the Iktisat Bank. Iktisat Bank founded `Denizli Elektrik Türk Anonim Sirketi (Denizli Electricity Turkish Corporation) in 1934 to produce electricity. The company also took action to found a hydroelectric plant in Gökpinar. Meanwhile, the municipality abandoned its cooperation with İktisat Bank. The electricity problem of Denizli had persisted troubledly until Gökpınar I hydroelectric plant came into operation in 1948. The demand for industrialization in Denizli proposed the establishment of a new plant for the agenda in the year that this plant had entered into service. Ultimately, the demand for the establishment of Sümerbank Yarn Factory enabled laying the foundation of the Gökpınar II Hydroelectric Power Plant in 1949. This plant, which was opened in 1954, became also unable to meet the needs of Denizli in a short time. The electricity problem of Denizli could not be resolved until Denizli was connected to the national electricity network.
