Abstract
One of the ideals of the new Turkish state was the popular participation of the people in the government and the ability to act for their own benefit. Thanks to the cultural revolution to be realized, this ideal could be reached with the cultural and intellectual level to be reached by the public. The convergence of the people with the state and the intellectuals was possible with the “purification” of the language by a reduction of the number of words of foreign origin. This requirement was clearly felt in the last century of the Ottoman Empire. However, the remedy came after the national awakening took place. The essence of the language revolution was to go to the people, making it easy for them to read and write. For this, only the acceptance of the new Turkish alphabet of Latin origin was not enough. As in law, the language should be able to be used and understandable at any moment in the life of the people. Atatürk has acted with the people for the public as it was from the beginning of the National Struggle. He maintained his attitude towards language. It was a requirement of the Turkish cultural revolution that every member of the society could read and understand the writings of the other easily in the protection of equality of opportunity in life. In the context of this approach, it is possible to say that there is a populist side of the language revolution.
