Abstract

There is a direct relationship between political institutions and the press, and the relationship between governing parties and the press has a special importance. Sometimes, the governing party sees its relations with the publication organs in a positive way, but there can sometimes be a confrontation between the press and the government, and in the time of the Democratic Party (DP) there were occasional differences between the press and the governing party. The newspaper Hürses, published by Cavid Oral, falls into in this category. It started by following the line of the Republican People’s Party (RPP), and in its first two years, both in its news reporting and in Cavid Oral’s writing, it adopted a position of opposition to the DP and support for the RPP. However, this later began to change, and this became clearer with Oral’s move to the DP. In this way, Hürses adopted a publication policy in line with the DP, although certainly not as an official publication organ. The aim of this study is to give examples of the move by the newspaper Hürses and its owner Cavit Oral from the side of the RPP to the DP, and to reveal the picture of the transformation in the government-press relationship.
