TEMEL EĞİTİM DÜZEYİNDEKİ ÖĞRENCİLERİN DÜNYA VE EVREN KONULARINA İLİŞKİN TUTUMLARININ İNCELENMESİ

INVESTIGATION OF THE STUDENTS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS THE SUBJECTS RELATED TO WORLD AND UNIVERSE IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

Özet

İnsanlarda evren, dünya ve doğayı anlama gayretleri neticesinde oluşan merak duygusu, astronomi ile fen bilimleri arasında derin bağların oluşmasına sebep olmuştur. Buna göre, araştırmanın amacı, temel eğitim düzeyindeki öğrencilerin Dünya ve Evren konularına ilişkin tutumlarının incelenmesi olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırma, deneysel araştırma yöntemlerinden tek gruplu ön-test/son-test yarı deneysel deseninde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemi MEB’e bağlı bir ilkokul ile bir ortaokul sınıflarında öğrenim gören öğrencilerden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada ön-test ve son-testte 320’si erkek ve 262’si kız öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 582 kişiden oluşan aynı öğrencilerin sonuçları dikkate alınmıştır. Veri toplamak amacıyla Dünya ve Evren konularına ilişkin 5’li Likert tipi ölçek, ilgili üniteler anlatılmadan önce ön-test ve anlatıldıktan sonra ise son-test olarak uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin ön-test uygulaması sonrası güvenirlik katsayısı değeri 0.864 ve son-test uygulaması sonrası güvenirlik katsayısı değeri 0.860 olarak bulunmuştur. Araştırmada ön-test sonuçları ortalama 99.24 (% 73.5), son-test sonuçları ortalama 97.37’ (% 72) dir. Buna göre genel olarak, öğrencilerde Dünya ve Evren konularına ilişkin tutumda kısmen bir azalma olduğu görülmektedir. Ancak bu azalma istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildir, t(1162) = 1.571, (p˃.05). Sonuçlar alt problemler düzeyinde incelendiğinde tutumun, cinsiyete göre değişmediği, okullar düzeyinde ilkokul lehine olduğu, sınıflar düzeyinde üçüncü, beşinci, yedinci ve sekizinci sınıflarda azalma yönünde, dördüncü ve altıncı sınıflarda ise artma yönünde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca tutumun, “Günlük yaşamda Dünya ve Evren”, ve “Dünya ve Evrene karşı duyulan ilgi ve alaka” faktör düzeylerinde azalma yönünde, “Dünya ve Evrene karşı duyulan özgüven” faktör düzeyinde ise artma yönünde olduğu görülmüştür.

Abstract

The sense of wonder which aroused from humankind’s struggle for understanding nature, world and universe created powerful links between Astronomy and Science. The aim of the research is to investigate students’ attitudes towards subjects related to Earth and Universe developmentally. The study was conducted in a single-group pre-test / post-test quasi-experimental design of experimental research methods. The sample of the research consists of students who are educated in elementary and secondary school associated with National Education Ministry. In the research, totally 582 students’ results including 320 male and 262 female students are taken into consideration. In order to collect data, five point likert scale about the subjects of Earth and Universe is applied as pre-test before the units are taught and as a post-test after teaching. The scale was administered to 48 students in the pilot program. The pretest reliability coefficient was 0.864 and the post-test reliability coefficient was 0.860. Pre-test results of attitude scale applied before the units in the field of World and Universe are 99.24 (73.5%) on average and after these subjects are taught, pos-test results are 97.30’ (% 72). Accordingly, it is seen that students’ attitude towards World and Universe decreased partially in general. However, this decrease is not significant statistically, t (1162) = 1.571, (p ˃ .05). When the results are examined with regard to subproblems, it is viewed that the attitude does not change in terms of gender, it is in the favor of elementary school students in the school level, and in the class level, it decreases in 3th, 5th, 7th and 8th grades but increases in 4th and 6th grades. Besides, attitude is in the direction of decrease in the factors ‘’Earth and Universe in daily life’’, and ‘’ Interest in Earth and Universe’’, but it is in the direction of increase in the factor ‘’Self-Confidence for Earth and Universe’’.
