Abstract
This research aims to examine the practices of religious education carried out in the Baha'i community within the multicultural structure of Antakya, using a qualitative approach based on participant experiences. The study group of this research, conducted with a phenomenological design, consists of 27 individuals living in Antakya who belong to the Baha'i faith. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using descriptive and content analysis techniques. As a result of the analysis, six main themes were identified: the structure and functioning of religious education, the fundamental principles adopted in education, program content and resources, educational activities, encountered challenges, and views on the Religious Culture and Ethics Knowledge (RCEK) course. Research findings indicate that education in the Baha'i community is built upon a "spiritual/virtue-based education" approach aimed at developing the individual's spiritual capacity and moral virtues, rather than a traditional and hierarchical understanding of "religious education." It was determined that educational processes are conducted on a voluntary basis, centered on individual responsibility, and integrated with service to the community; the absence of a clergy class also grounds this process in collective consultation. Ruhi study circles, devotional gatherings, junior youth groups, and children's classes stand out as fundamental learning environments that combine theoretical knowledge with practical service. The participants' cautious approach to the concept of "religious education" reveals that education is primarily understood within the framework of spiritual development and character building. Findings show that participants' preferences and attitudes towards RCEK courses are largely related to concerns about social cohesion and marginalization; criticisms of the course content focus on pluralism and pedagogical approach. In conclusion, the findings reveal that religious education in the Baha'i community is conducted within a framework that is non-clerical, voluntary-based, and service-oriented, largely through informal learning processes.
