Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the validity of the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) hypothesis for the Turkish economy in the period 1994:M01-2022:M09, using ADF type unit root tests, in a broader framework. For this purpose, the validity of the SGP hypothesis was tested with ADF, RALS-ADF, Fourier-ADF and Fourier KSS unit root tests. Unlike the literature, the validity of the PPP hypothesis was examined by considering structural breaks and nonlinearity. According to the empirical findings obtained, it is seen that the results change when structural breaks and nonlinearity are taken into account. While it is seen that the hypothesis may be invalid if the breaks are not taken into account, the hypothesis is valid if the breaks are taken into account. That is, when structural breaks are taken into account, the PPP hypothesis is valid. Consideration of structural breaks in the nonlinear framework plays an important role in terms of results. The results of the analysis empirically prove that the PPP hypothesis is valid under structural breaks and nonlinearity in Turkey. As a conclusion, Turkey's real exchange rate series has a stationary process for the period examined in the study.
