Günümüzde bakıma gereksinim duyan özürlü ve yaşlıların sayısı giderek artmaktadır. Bu sorunun çözümü için aile kurumu yetersiz kalmakta, sosyal devlet anlayışı perspektifinde
ve bakım sigortası uygulamaları doğrultusunda ailenin geleneksel bakım rolü giderek bakım personelleri tarafından üstlenilmektedir. Ülkemizde bakım elemanlarına duyulan gereksinim ve bu elemanların karşılaştığı sorunlar her geçen gün artmaktadır.
Nowadays, the number of handicapped and elderly people who need care has been gradually increasing. As a solution to this problem, the institution of family remains incapable; in line with care insurance implementations of the perspective and social state understanding, the traditional care-giving role of the family has been gradually taken on by care staff. In our country, the requirement of caregivers and their confront problems are increasing every passing day. Within the scope of this research, in April-May 2008 period, interviews were conducted face-to-face with fifty people who work as care staff in six institutions operating in Ankara, five of which are privately owned elderly care houses and the other one is a care center for the handicapped. Gender, marital status, age, education level, educational background about the subject of care, economic and social security conditions of the care staff are analyzed. Besides, the problems encountered in their workplace (such as stress, anxiety, despondency, weariness, prostration, fatigue) are addressed. As a result of the research, it is found that for the reduction of the problems which care staff confront in institutional settings, in-service training, social support and improvement of material conditions are significant.
