Sanayileşme ve kentleşme süreciyle başlayan çevre sorunları, 1950’li yıllardan sonra kendisini daha şiddetli olarak hissettirmeye başlamıştır. Bu tarihten sonra çevre sorunlarının somutlaşmasına bağlı olarak, soruna çözüm bulma çabası artmıştır. Ancak mevcut çevre sorunlarının karmaşık yapısı dikkate alınmadığı için, çözülmesi bir yana, sorunlar artmaya devam etmiştir. Çevre sorunlarının bu karmaşık yapısı içerisinde, bugün önemli bir ayağını da kuşkusuz yoksulluk oluşturmaktadır. Günümüzde gerek çevre sorunları gerekse yoksulluk dünyanın sadece bir bölgesinde ortaya çıkan bir olay değil, aksine bütün dünyayı tehdit eden bir olgu haline gelmiştir. Her ikisinin de temelinde dünya genelinde egemen olan ekonomik uygulamalar önemli rol oynamaktadır. Bu nedenle çevre sorunlarını çözmek için yoksulluğu; yoksulluğu kaldırmak için çevre sorunlarını çözmek gibi bir zorunlulukla karşı karşıyayız. Bu gerçeğe rağmen günümüzün ekonomik anlayışı, birbiriyle ilişkili bu iki sorunun daha da kronikleşmesine yol açmaktadır. Oysa doğa, bugünkü dünya ekonomisinin hem kaynağı hem de sınırı olup, burada yaşanan sorunlar, insanların sadece sağlıklarını değil, aynı zamanda ekonomilerini de tehdit etmektedir.

Environmental issues began with the process of industrialization and urbanization, especially after the 1950s began to be felt more severe. After this date, finding solution effort of this issue is increased, depending on whether the environmental problems to become more concrete. Despite these efforts, the problems have become even more complicated, are not taken into account for the complex structure of the current environmental problems. In addition to complex structure of environmental problems, poverty is an important pillar of these problems today. In present day, both poverty and environmental problems the world is not just an event occurring in a region, whereas has become a phenomenon that threatens the entire world. On the basis of the both’s complex structure, prevailing economic models in the entire world and its implementers plays an important role. Therefore, to solve environmental problems is necessity to solve poverty and to solve poverty is a necessity to solve the environmental problems. Despite this fact, the understanding of today's economy leads to become more chronic of these related issues. However nature is the source and the limit of today's world economy and the problems here are effected not only the health of people, but also threatens their economies.
