Flute is one of the oldest instrument and has a long history. Flute made from antler or empty bones in its’ primitive period. During Renaissance Period, It had one piece of wood body. By the Baroque Period, flute divided into three parts and curtains began to be added. Even if number of the frieds increased in Classical Period the actual development was made by Theobald Boehm in Romantic Period. The flute in present-day, has three added metal parts and has wide range of register. In this work, first the development of flute until Baroque Period, second improvements of Baroque and Classic Periods and at the end development of the flute in Romantic Period will be examined. With the evolution of flute, ended in Romantic Period, so many pieces were composed for the new flute. In this survey 11 most popular pieces which were composed in 19th century and performed in flute education and concert programs, were chosen. According to their contributions to Romantic Period descriptive information about those pieces was given. When flute pieces, composed in 19th century, analyzed it was seen their important contributions effected this century. Especially after flute finished its development it became indispensable instrument as a solo and orchestral instrument. And also it is one of the important instrument which is taught as a main instrument in professional musicians education departments like in many countries around the world.
