Shigeo Fukuda is one of the most important designers of the 20th century, in terms of both his understanding of design and his identity of design. This study aims to analyze his culturally profound, creative, innovative, passionate, ironic, astonishing and clever works, which Fukuda created with his grasp of ‘a livable better world’. This study also aims to evaluate his views and knowledge about his understanding of design. Furthermore, the study discusses in detail the background and the history of the formation phases of Fukuda’s designer identity as a design master and presents important facets of his life devoted to the design. In conclusion, it is clear that the universal merit in Fukuda’s design. His conception of design affected profoundly not only his own period but also the 21th century and he deeply supported the graphic design history.
