Makale özeti ve diğer detaylar.
Mankind has wondered for centuries how some of their work will end and what future will bring to them, thus they have tried different ways to learn what will happen in the future. These ways are named as “fortune-telling, prophecy, astrology”. In Turkish culture, fortune-telling and prophecy are common as they are in the other cultures. Therefore, both in pre-islamic period and post-islamic period, we can see the examples of literary works about fortune-telling. Some of the other ways that mankind use to satisfy his curiosity about future are such natural events as lunar and solar eclipse, new moon, falling star, heavy rain, hailstorm, strong winds, rainbow, lightning, thunder and earthquake. In other words, curiosity led people to find different methods by using natural events to predict the future, which is called “melheme”. Melheme, the examples of which can be widely seen in Arabic, Persian and Turkish literature, amounts to a significant number among our old literary works. One of these melheme’s is a poetic text registered in the periodical no:2727 in the National Library. In this text, with the method of finding out in which horoscope the moon is, works which are and are not appropriate to do according to the horoscope of the moon are explained. In the study of this text, after giving information about fortune-telling and melheme, I have studied and transcribed the poetic text registered in the mentioned periodical, and added a glossary including the words of the text.
