The basic meaning of the words in a text can also be used with different connotations apart from their basic meanings. It can be possible to understand and to make sense of a text by knowing these different meanings of the words used in the text and the context.The “yorı-” verb, which means “to walk” basically is also used in other meanings in Kutadgu Bilig. As one of the works of Karahanlı Turkish era, The Kutadgu Bilig is a work of Turkish cultural history, Turkish language and literature that has never lost its importance. In this study, the context meanings of the “yorı-” verb found in Kutadgu Bilig’s index were tried to determined. It was found that the “yorı-” verb placed in 253 times in the text. Out of these, it was placed 234 times as one word and 19 times as the compound verb form. The verb “yorı-” is shown with the meanings of “to walk” and “to arrive” in Kutadgu Bilig’s index. However, the “yorı-” verb in the text was used not only to mean “to walk” and “to arrive” but also “to live”, “to move”, “to walk around”, “to go”, “to deal with”, “to continue”, “to spend time”, “to be mentioned”, “to think”, “to get along”, “to be valued” and “to write.” In addition, as it is seen in the examples of modern Turkish, it was used like a preposition to mean “to come on” in order to specify a motivation and quickness in the form of the imperative conjugated with the second person singular. It was also determined in the text that the “yorı-” verb was used like yolça yorı- “to behave”, izçe yorı- “to behave”, sa•vı yorı- “to increase the influence”, ya•guŽk yorı- “to approach” and umınçŽka yorı- “to be in expectation” with a noun and buza yorı- “to ruin”, kezip yorı- “to walk around”, yaŽka yorı- “to approach” and ayı•glap yorı- “to decry” with a compound verb.
