From the past to nowadays a lot of discussions have been made on classical Ottoman Poetry which has an important place in Turkish literature. With the beginning of the development of Turkish literature period in the effect of western literature the classical Ottoman Poetry, especially for its language, has been criticized a lot. Besides the language, the topics and aesthetic taste being criticized the attention has been directed to this poetry. It can be stated that the classical Ottoman Poetry is an idealist literature being consistent with its era, the unity in itself and especially its reflection of the society. In this paper the arguments on the classical Ottoman Poetry have been taken into consideration and the arguments were tried to be disproved by identifying certain defendant points. In this sense, Classical Ottoman poetry in literature gains its source from the basic sources of the Islam civilization, adaptive to its era, it reflects the complete of the society which it has been born, its continuing in permanence; without the conflict of old and new, based on Islamic mystisism and has the feature of abstractism which is one of the important features of real art. Works of Classical Ottoman poetry have tried to reflect the past, sensitivity, imagination, expectations and desires of the Turkish nation with a supreme art intellect and from behind the prism of esthete. It would be right not to accept the Classical Ottoman poetry with todays perception and criterias but – as in all the social sciences- to evaluate and accept it in its own historical period, social and cultural terms, within its own art perception and see it as a cultural existance of a thousand year civilization. In this paper, the critisism on Classical Ottoman poetry and the answers to these critics were identified under certain headings and once more again the original structure and value of Classical Ottoman poetry has been taken in to consideration.
