The Beloved is the most important character in understanding the idea of love in Divan poetry. The reason that the Beloved appears in different identities is related to the metaphorical expression style in Divan literature, besides many other factors. The most important of these factors can be stated as the perception of art in Islam, Sufism, and social structure, cultural and national contributions to the image of the Beloved. Regarding the relationship between the reality and the metaphorical components in Divan literature, especially because of the influence of Sufism, the Beloved has a changeable characteristic. While the Beloved can sometimes be an unreachable and abstract figure, she can be a part of real life some other times. Who is the Beloved, who has been loved and praised, and associated with many similar aspects by several poets for centuries? What are the reasons that created a huge variety of perception of the Beloved? It is evident that the lover and the image of the Beloved, created by the components of love in Divan literature, are idealized. In this article, at the very center of the darling, lover and rival triangle, the “Beloved” will be analyzed.
