Öz Mondros Ateşkes (30 Ekim 1918) Antlaşmasından sonra İtilaf Devletleri'nin Doğu Anadolu'da Ermenistan Devleti kurma çalışmalarına karşı, Raif Hoca ile Süleyman Nazif 4 Aralık 1918'de merkezi İstanbul'da Vilâyat-ı Şarkiye Müdafaa-i Hukuk-u Milliye Cemiyetini kurdular. Cevat Dursunoğlu bu cemiyetin aynı adı taşıyan Erzurum Şubesini 3 Mart 1919'da kurdu. Mustafa Kemal Paşa 3 Temmuz 1919'da Erzurum'a geldi. 8 Temmuz 1919'da resmi görevinden ve askerlik mesleğinden ayrıldı. 10 Temmuz 1919 Vilâyat-ı Şarkiye Müdafaa-i Hukuk-i Milliye Cemiyeti'nin başına geçti. Mustafa Kemal Paşa (23.07.1919 / 07.08.1919) Erzurum Kongresi'ni topladı. Kongre Doğu Anadolu'da değişik adlar ile kurulmuş Milli Cemiyetleri birleştirdi. Şarki Anadolu Müdafaa-i Hukuk Cemiyeti adı altında topladı. Mustafa Kemal Paşa Başkanlığında 9 kişilik Heyet-i Temsiliye'yi seçti. Bu çalışma: Adı geçen cemiyetin "Erzurum Hey'et-i Merkeziyesi Karar Kayıt Defteri"ndeki 20 karar ile ilgilidir.

Following Mondros Treaty (30th October 1918), Raif Hoca and Süleyman Nazif established the Society for the National Defence of the Rights of the Eastern Provinces with the centre in Istanbul on 4th December 1918 as a reaction to the struggle of the Allied Powers to found Armenian State in the Eastern Anatolia. Cevat Dursunoğlu founded the Erzurum branch of this society with the same name on 3rd March 1919. Mustafa Kemal Pasha arrived in Erzurum on 3rd July 1919. He resigned from his official duty and the Army. He became the head of the Soci¬ety for the National Defence of the Rights of the Eastern Provinces on 10th July 1919. Mustafa Kemal Pasha (23.07.1919 / 07.08.1919) held the Erzurum Congress. The Congress united the national societies with different names which had been established in the Eastern Anatolia un¬der the Society for the National Defence of the Rights of the Eastern Pro¬vinces and they chose the Council Of Representatives consisting of nine people, the head of which was Mus-tafa Kemal.
