Lisans düzeyi turizm eğitimi ders programının mezunlarca değerlendirilmesi: mersin üniversitesi turizm işletmeciliği ve otelcilik yüksekokulu mezunları üzerinde bir araştırma

Lisans düzeyinde turizm eğitimi, genel olarak turizm sektörüne bilgili, yetenekli ve yabancı dil bilen üst düzey yöneticiler yetiştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu eğitim sisteminin kuşkusuz en önemli unsurlarından biri olan ders programları da işte bu amaca uygun bir şekilde hazırlanmalıdır. Ders programlarının bu amaca uygun hazırlanması için ise, sektörün gereksinimlerinin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Sektörün gereksinimlerinin belirlenmesinin en iyi yolu da sektörle ilgili bilimsel araştırmaları yapmaktır. Mersin T.İ.O.Y.O, turizm eğitiminde uzun yıllardır faaliyet gösteren bir kurumdur. Okulun mezunlarının turizm sektöründe önemli mevkilere ulaştığı bilinmektedir. Türkiye'de turizm eğitimi alanında oldukça etkin rolü olan bu okulun ders programının mezunlar tarafından değerlendirilmesi, bu doğrultuda programın günün ve sektörün gereksinimlerine uygun hale getirilmesi oldukça önemlidir. Araştırmada, mezunların okulda verilen dersleri genel olarak hem öğrenciyken hem de mezuniyet sonrasında önemsedikleri, Büyük çoğunluğu turizm sektöründe çalıştığı görülen mezunların sayısal içerikli dersleri en gereksiz; yabancı dil derslerini ise, en gerekli dersler arasında gördükleri araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlar arasındadır. Bu sonuçlardan, Mersin T.O.Y.O'nun ders programı güncelleme çalışmalarında yaralanılacak olması, çalışma bulgularının önemini ortaya koymaktadır.

The graduation level tourism education aims to bring students in management competencies and to prepare them as high knowledgeable, capable and foreign language speaking managers for tourism industry. The curriculum, the most important part of this education system, needs to be prepared according to this aim. In order to reach this aim, the needs of the tourism industry have to be well searched. The best way to determine the needs of tourism industry is to make the scientific searches. Mersin Tourism and Hotel Management Program has been an important school since 1980 in Turkey. The school has a reputation for its well-known and successful graduates both in tourism industry and in academic area. It is argued that, it is very important that the graduates evaluate the curriculum of this school and to update the curriculum according to needs of today's very compatible tourism industry. It is found out from the study, that the importance levels of lessons ascribed by the graduates are quite high both when they were students and after they graduated. It is also found out that the graduates are well satisfied by the school. Foreign languages are identified as most needed lessons; Mathematics and Statistics are identified as not needed lessons by the graduates. İn addition it is found out that, most of the graduates are working in tourism industry. These results are important because of their usefulness in Mersin University Tourism and Hotel Management Program's curriculum update process.
