Âsaf lived in Antioch in the years between 1880 and 1971. He was the son of Yahya Efendi, who was one of the past muftis of Antakya. He learned the sciences and knowledges of his time from his father and the thinkers of the time. His father Yahya Efendi, who was a divan poet himself, had a great effect on his encounter with divan poetry. He is known to have written 150 poems and 12 prose writings and to have written 139 of his poems in prosody meter. This study aims to explore the traditional features of divan poetry in the Antiochian poet Yahya-zade Asaf’s poems written in prosody and the extent he is a devoted divan poem.
