Makale özeti ve diğer detaylar.
In this study, the problems faced by the disabled people during the process of choosing partners are examined according to gender differences. In this context, the main problems are described according to gender differences. Secondly the situation in Turkey in terms of disadvantages of being disabled for men and double disadvantage for women are discussed. As a result of the study where quantitative research technique is used, it has been found that there is a common perception that the disabled men and women cannot “successfully” fulfil the responsibilities shaped according to the gender roles loaded to men and women in partner selection and marriage relations. It has been also found that this creates disadvantages for both men and women. However, disabled women are less advantageous than men especially in gaining a partner, in fulfilling the responsibilities regarding the house and in relations with the partner. All these factors create a social isolation and exclusion for disabled people.
