The purpose of this study is to identify the opinions of the fourth-grade students who started the first-grade with cursive handwriting and their primary school teachers and branch teachers about handwriting. This is a qualitative study. The research was done in one of the primary schools in Denizli during the first semester of 2008-2009 education year. In this study convenience sampling method which was one of the purposive sampling methods was used. The sample was branch teachers (n=9) and primary school teachers (n=10) and fourth grade students (n=41). In the research, interview, one of the qualitative research data collection technique was used. Students commonly think that writing is an obligation. Both teachers and students name cursive and manuscript handwriting in different ways. Teachers support the idea of starting the first grade with manuscript handwriting.
