Problems encountered by primary school teachers in the teaching of music

The aim of this research is to identify the problems encountered by primary school teachers and to make suggestions to solve the problems. This is a descriptive study and also a case study. A questionnaire form was used for data collection. The surveys were administered on the elementary education teachers working under Ankara Province Directorate of the Ministry of Education in 2006 – 2007 academic year. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS program and statistical analyses were carried out. It was concluded that the primary school teachers' music education was not sufficient and that they had encountered problems in improving themselves with regard to music education. A number of suggestions were made in line with the results obtained.
