Cyber terrorism: technology and power

Cyber terrorism is regarded as the convergence of terrorism and cyberspace. The general definition of cyberspace is everything remotely connected to the internet, the 3-D animation, and telecommunications and all of them combined. In short, it is used to name any kind of modern information transfer. On the other hand, terrorism that formed the greatest paranoia in the twentieth century world refers to those acts which are intended to create terror for an ideological goal and by a member or members of a group, which deliberately target, or else disregard the safety of civilians. The combination of these two up-to-the-minute terms became one of the most outstanding contexts in American Studies at the beginning of the twenty first century. A group of writers titled as Cyberpunk Movement dealt with the subject of cyber terrorism in their works under the influence of highly developed technology and its effects on power relations in the world. Among these writers, William Gibson and Bruce Sterling, come to the fore, with their use of such themes as the relations between human beings and machines, the combination of both, the invasion of the brain and the body, cyber world and the movement of human being in the cyberspace, the power of dominating cyberspace and the control of information by means of technology, artificial intelligence and so on. This paper will be a short analysis of cyber terrorism as it appears in certain cyberpunk novels, and the subject will also be discussed by referring to a few real life examples.

Siber terörizm, terörizm ve siber uzayın birleşimi olarak ele alınmaktadır. İnternet, 3 boyutlu animasyon ve telekomunikasyon ile ilgili her şey ve bunların tümünün birleşimi, siber uzay kavramının genel bir tanımını oluşturmaktadır.Kısaca, her türlü modern bilgi transferini tanımlamak için kullanılmaktadır.Öte yandan, 20.yüzyılın en büyük paranoyasını oluşturan terörizm ise ideolojik bir amaç uğruna şiddet içeren tüm hareketleri ve bir grubun üyesi ya da üyeleri tarafından sivillerin güvenliğine kastedilmesi ya da bu güvenliğin hiçe sayılmasını ifade etmektedir. Bu son derece modern iki kavramın birleşimi, 20.yüzyılın başlarında Amerikan kültür çalışmalarının en göze çarpan konularından birini oluşturmuştur. Siberpunk Hareketi temsilcileri olarak adlandırılan bir grup yazar, eserlerinde siber terörizm kavramını çok gelişmiş teknoloji ve dünyadaki güç ilişkilerine etkisi bağlamında incelemektedir. Bu yazarlar arasında, özellikle, William Gibson ve Bruce Sterling, insan ve makineler arasındaki ilişkiler, her ikisinin birleşimleri, beyin ve vücudun istilası, siber dünya ve insanın siber uzaydaki konumu, her şeyi etkisi altına alan siber uzayın gücü, teknoloji ve yapay zeka tarafından bilginin kontrolü temalarıyla öne çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma, yukarıda adı geçen yazarlara ait belli başlı siberpunk romanlarda, siber terörizm kavramının nasıl işlendiğinin kısa bir analizi olmakla birlikte, gerçek yaşama dair örneklere de yer verilecektir .
